Loved the...

... melodic development of the song. The riffs were awesome, the mix was cool, the vocoder effects really fit... All in all ALMOST perfect. But only almost.
I can't say this enough:
RHYTHM DISTORTED GUITARS:
-Record them twice
-Take one recording, pan it HARD right
-Take the other recording, pan it HARD left.

Presto: Awesome guitar sound. Why oh why did you pan it to the left?
:D

Awesome song, dude!
5ed.

Oh, thanks man, thanks for the honesty and for the grades, I really enjoy when a fellow musician gives me a kind of review like this. I can not agree more about the comment on the guitar panning, but, I was lazy so I did the second best thing - "Channel delay for stereo simulation"... XD

Thanks again!!

Um....

... Because NG is filled with zerobombing 9 year olds who only listen to Super Mario techno remixes?
Nice vocals. the mix sounds pretty awesome :D

nihilisticeq responds:

yeah that's probably it, i'm just not used to getting 0 bombed 5 times in a row

and thank you

Cool.

Nice riffing. one tip: Record your rhythm guitars twice, pan one track hard to the left, and one hard to the right. Keeping the guitars centered lets the whole mix sound to muddy, especially during the solo.

Warhector responds:

Hey, thanks for the comment :)
And thanks for the tip, might be usefull :D
As you hear now i have used your tip. sounds much better. thanks :D
:War:Hector:

Sweet.

The synth really fit well to the riff. and the riff was awesome. A bit repetitive at times, but fuck it!
The drums sounded a little muffled, and the guitar had that typical scratchy 'line in' sound, if you know what I mean. Run them through some cab impulses or preamp emulators, and they should sound better than fine though. Great playing, nice.
5ed.

350teric responds:

Thanks for the nice words! About the guitar tone, usually I don't use this effect (I don't know why I used it on this couple of songs) and it's the effect - it is over gained nu-metal distortion that I have on my preamp... so I get what are you trying to say.... Anyway check my new stuff that I will be posting they will sound better!

Garageband! Woooo!

Kudos for recording with Garageband. I started out with it, too. I'd recommend using the software drums and programming your own stuff, instead of using the loops though.
Catchy riffs, but I can't say this enough: For metal guitars, record the rhythms twice, pan one track hard left, the other hard right. Lead guitars in the middle. Try it out man, it will really UP your mix.
5ed!

HorusTheHeretic responds:

Thanks, man. Glad to see a fellow GarageBand user. I'll try the panning next time I have access to my Dad's Mac.

The guitars are already double-tracked, so it should be relatively simple.

Thanks for the review and the five!

Mmmm....

Sounds pretty decent, as Twilight already said, the guitars were sometimes a little off, but that's nothing that can't be fixed. Just ONE thing about the rhythm guitars: PANNING. Record the rhythm twice and pan one track hard left, the other hard right. This will do wonders to your sound. The drums sounded nice, the kick could use a little more beef...
The intro was pretty cool, the leads were cool. Good going.
5ed.

Pure-Metal-UTA responds:

Thanks alot!
You're right, the off-time can be fixed, but I'll hold off until I get even better equipment than I have.
About the panning, I never knew that it would go well like that.
The kick needs more beef... I'll find a way to get that.
Thanks for the review!

Cool.

Your grinds/screams are pure metalness. They are uber awesome. Reminds me of Lamb of God a lot. I want to be able to scream like that too.. :(
The talking in the beginning really fit the song, i sort of expected some sort of talking when i heard the original, weird.
The cleans at 1:19 were a bit off pitch, especially 'forever more'. But meh. The dual cleans were really cool, has a really unique sound to it. The melodies were soothing, kept the song together.
The lyrics were nice... Fresh in love? :D

TwilightNecrosis responds:

How'd you guess? =p
Yeah, those choruses are hard. Three-part harmonies are a BITCH; I could never get the middle one to sound right. I even tried to use an auto-tuner, and I still couldn't get it to sound right.
It's funny that you should mention LoG... Randy Blythe is one of my main influences.
But you shouldn't want to scream like me; your screams sound awesome, man. Way more emotional (not emo =p) than mine... I can almost *feel* the hate when you scream. That's really cool, and one of the things that makes you really unique as a vocalist.
Thanks so much for the awesome review, man. I really appreciate it.

Mmmm...

To kill a mocking bird is actually a pretty good book :-)
Now, this review may sound negative, but it's not suppose to be. I only take my time to review songs, if I see some potential or if they are good. Both apply here :D
Besides, reviews like OMG THIS IZZ SO KEWLLL never helped me.
OK.
The song itself: Nothing really to say here, the buildup was cool, I always enjoy some sampled speeches / quotes etc. Very metalcore.
The guitar:
Your playing was great, the style was cool. BUT i did hear some parts out of tune, is that what you meant with 'flat'? The part starting at 6:32, you can hear that the two rhythm guitars panned left/right don't fit. But it's just slightly out of tune, no 'biggie'. Just remember to tune your guitar during recording ALL of the time. Best is to always have a tuning device connected and constantly checking. The tone of the guitar was ... ok. I'm guessing you're going directly line-in, and not recording via a mic and amp. The sound is very fuzzy, it has that typical line-in distortion sound. I also record that way, i use a noisegate, then a distortion pedal, and then go directly into my audio interface. But i found a great trick to get rid of that 'fake' distortion sound: impulse loaders. PM me if you want to learn more about em :D I'd be glad to help.
The Vocals:
The quality of the recording was good, the volume should be lowered just a tad. Also, the vocals do not really blend into the mix, simple solution: add some reverb. but not too much. The vocal performance, was ok, i certainly know what kind of style you're aiming at. The problem is, you're not using the full potential of your voice. There has to be more fry in your voice, the beginning of each 'shout' is clean only at the end it turns into a real 'scream', if you know what i mean... :D Just try it all LOUDER.
The bass blended in pretty well, i like it when the bass has a little more presence, but that's just a personal opinion.
The drums also sound quite ok, the bassdrum did a good job. haha
The snare sounds a little trashy, like an empty can or something, but it's ok. The symbols sounded a little trashy at times, but meh!
Overal 9/10, 5ed.
I know what it's like to dig up old songs and try to make the best of em.. it's a bitch!
:D

Jakisdead responds:

Thanks very much for the review man. It means a lot to me for a number of reasons.

I will most definately take into account what you've said about my tone and PM you on that at some point. And yeah, I was sloppy with the tuning by the end of this one.

I'm intrigued by what you said about my voice, I'll certainly try to crank it up a little :]

I plan to turn down the kick a little in future. I am partial to a more 'clicky' pedal but I think it's a little overboard in this one.

Thanks again for the review man. I shall be in touch soon :)

oh man....

and i thought my 5 second clip is annoying as hell... LOL
This is the clipping, spastic thing I've heard in a while.
:D

jarrydn responds:

Haha, I checked out your submission last night, and I'm pretty convinced that you're going to win. I'm thinking of using it as my phone ringtone hahaha!!! XD

Logic = ownage.

I use logic for everything. Once you get the hang of everything, you will never want to switch to anything else.

Jeez, how low are you tuned? Sounds very ballzy. The guitars are a little too distorted, but could be a stylistic mean. The ending riff was very cool, the harmonies really added a nice feel.
What kind of drums are you using? Almost sound like real ones, the snare sort of sounds like an empty can though :D
5ed.

PenguinBomb responds:

Guitars are tuned in Drop Ab (Bb standard: 6 semitones lower than normal, with the bottom string dropped another 2), And yees I lurbs my distortion :D :D

Drums are DFH samples, I likes em. and tbh I started off with a thicker more processed snare sound, but after awhile it started to sound machine-like, so I'm still searching for a semi-organic snare sound.

tyz for the review :)
